“Hidden Talent”, 215, Balochi Song

  • “Hidden Talent” is a serial, which discovers the talents in the less privileged and backward areas. There are numbers of singers, poets and musicians who have been ignored in mainstream of arts. The serial focuses on the talent and highlights their skills. These ignored singers and poets have voices that touch your hearts. We believe that God has put the diverse gifts of talent and ability inside everyone of us. Aziz Sanghur is a documentary filmmaker, who decided to record those singers, poets and musicians who do not have a platform to show their talents and abilities.
    AKS Musical Band is a Lyari based, a group of singers and musicians, comprising five team members. They perform instrumental and vocal music. The band members are keyboardist, guitarist, padiest, poet and singer. AKS Musical Band was established by Mir Imdad Raj, Rauf Nazzar, Aqeel Baloch, Ravi Kumar and R. K. Waqash. All five team members are from Lyari. The Musical Band has been performing for the past five years.
    Lyari is the oldest human settlement of Karachi city. The first inhabitants of Lyari were Baloch and Sindhi fishermen and nomads. Lyari was ignored for infrastructure development during the British colonial period, a policy that would continue well into Pakistan’s “post-colonial” period. There are few schools, substandard hospitals, a poor water system, limited infrastructure, and broken roads. Lyari is a stronghold of the lift-oriented political organizations. There are several ethnic groups in Lyari including Baloch, Sindhi, Memons, Pakhtuns, Seraikis, Urdu Speaking and Punjabi. The population of Lyari is estimated to be nearly one million. Lyari once known for producing famous sportsmen, singers, poets and musicians, has still a large number of sports clubs and music clubs, music and sports lovers see bleak future owing to government’s indifferent attitude towards this area.
    Balochi & Brahui, poetry and music: The oldest available Balochi poetry is of 16th century which belongs to poetry of Mir Chakar’s era. Of course it is to be said that Balochi poetry and poems existed long before that era in Baloch society. The new ear of Balochi poetry began after the creation of the Pakistan, when Pakistan’s army made incursion into Kalat, the capital of eastern Balochistan in 1948, the annexation of Balochistan to Pakistan was declared. Poetry is one of the most precious assets of Baloch land and its inhabitants. Themes incite talk of tribe, love, beauty, wars and religion. Baloch society has given birth to celebrated and dynamic poets like Gul Khan Naseer, Attah Shad, Sayed Zahoor Shah Hashmi, Yousaf Ali Khan Magsi, Mubarak Qazi, G R Mullah etc. Balochi is a Northwestern Iranian language. It is the principal language of the Baloch people. It is also spoken as a second language by most Brahui. It is isolated from the nearest Dravidian-speaking neighbour population of South India. Kalat, Mastung and Khuzdar districts of Balochistan are predominantly Brahui-speaking. Baloch are a people who live mainly in the Balochistan region of the southeastern-most edge of the Iranian plateau in Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. They are an Iranian people who mainly speak the Balochi language. Baloch is a nation consisting of 500 tribes, their tradition and commonly values are similar. They have united civilized society. The Balochi music include diverse elements ranging from music from various parts of South Asia as well as Central Asian and Middle Eastern.
